HOW THEY GOT THERE
Election - Presidents serve a 4-year term. The 22nd amendment limited the amount of terms a president can serve to 2.
Succession - 9 Vice Presidents have become the president due to the existing president's death, resignation, removal, etc. The 25th amendment says that the Vice President becomes the President if the VP and the President's cabinet determine that the President is disabled and unable to lead the country. Impeachment - An impeachment is an accusation after a majority vote in the House. These charges could be treason, bribery, etc. The impeached president is tried by the Senate, and if found guilty the VP takes over leadership. Only 2 presidents have ever been impeached, Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton, and neither were convicted.
WHILE IN OFFICE....
While in office The President of the United States is paid about $400,000 per year and has many other luxuries at his disposal. The President and First Family live in the White House in Washington DC, he travels by plane, specifically a designated Air Force One or a Marine Corps helicopter, and when on the ground, transportation is provided by an armored Presidential limousine.
