Responsibilities
- Hold trials for impeachments
- Approve appointments
- Pass bills
Total Members
-The United States Senate is composed of 100 senators. Each state always elects 2 senators, never more and never less. Each state has a Junior senator and a Senior senator.
Terms
-Each senator serves a 6-year term. This amount of time in office allows them to govern more during their time.
-Senate elections are usually not as easy to win as those of the House. This is for several reasons. Senators represent an entire state which is much more diverse than one of the smaller districts that elects a representative. Senators also have less personal contact with voters since they represent the entire state; this means that voters are less likely to know their senators views. Senators also get a lot more media attention, meaning all of their actions are scrutinized and under the public's eye. Lastly, with the Senate being the more powerful House of Congress, the challengers drawn into the election are more visible and more well known, making it not as easy for an incumbent to win reelection.
